John Chambers is the second foiling Moth to send in a file for the Island Trial and he takes over as our new leader with a time of 51 minutes and 2 seconds.
We've played the two tracks side by side so you can see how fast the Moths go and - sometimes - how fast they stop. John hit peak speeds just over 20 knots, with sustained speeds of 18.5 knots, a few knots faster than Stephen Oram's peaks.
The stop-start nature of Moth sailing really shows up on the video too!
From the look of these tracks, we're also sure that times significantly faster can be achieved!
For the absolute max speeds it looks as if it'll be between the Moths, kites and boards, although a fast cat or monohull shouldn't be ruled out. Even a "normal" fast dinghy can sustain reaching speeds in the high teens so the Moths aren't in the clear yet. A big IRC boat can do the same.
Other than that - where are the kites and boards?
