Overview & SI's

First it's important to understand that there is no "event" as such. This site just recognizes the long tradition of sailing around Dalkey Island and gives it a new twist.

The Island Trial is a sailing
Time Trial around a fixed course in Dublin Bay. The challenge is open to all sailors in all boats. The course is "open" all the time.

The aim is to sail the course in the fastest  time. A leaderboard will be maintained at this site which will show the outright leader for the Bragging Rights Cup. There will be a separate leaderboard maintained for trialists using times corrected under the PY Handicap for the Handy Sailor Silver Salver.

To enter sailors must agree to our terms and conditions. On completion of the course the trialist must provide us with a GPX file with which we can verify the sailing route and elapsed time.
We look forward to seeing you on the Bay!

    Sailing Instructions

It's a big course so there should be no need for any shouting though lets be clear from the outset that should you find yourself competing on any part of the race track this event is governed by ISAF's Sailing Rules

    The course:

Start between the East Pier light and the Bailey (within 2km of the East Pier light), around Dalkey Island and back.  That's it.

Please make sure to read our Ts & Cs then spend some time studying Hugh's "Making a GPX file" before you decide to head out there and have a go.

    See you on the water.
