On Saturday 20th April Paul Keane headed out with Will Nesbitt to have a first go at the Island Trial. The tide was ebbing, about 2 hours off low, and it was a Southerly breeze, probably 12-16kts.
Not the ideal conditions for a first shot at the leaderboard and, given it was also the first time either Paul or Will had been out in a dinghy for 6 months and that their Lasers all became Torches during that time, not nearly enough preparation.
They rounded Bulloch (P) and returned via Forty Foot (S) to complete the Junior course. Perhaps a bit more time on the water before fully fit again!
Only Paul had a tracker and when he got back to shore he switched off Endomondo and realised he had not logged in before he started his "workout". There were a few scary moments until - thankfully - the route showed up in training > workouts. Phew!
He downloaded his route via more options > export and submitted the GPX file via the entry form on the site. So - to all sailors - make sure you know how to make a GPX file before you go out and don't get caught out on this detail.
Either way, the course is open so let's be seeing you out there. Below is a video of Paul's track.
